Russian domain name registrars to sign memorandum on Russian Internet development
The signing will take place at RIGF-2016
A memorandum will be signed by Russian domain registrars on the development of the address space in the Russian segment of the Internet. The document, which is to be signed at the Russian Internet Governance Forum 2016 (RIGF), will outline basic development directions, priorities and registrar performance for improving the domain name network in Russia.
Currently, there are 10 top-level domains registered in Russia, both country- code domains and those registered as part of the New gTLD program. Most of these domains are open to anyone; they form the Russian domain area and provide users with the opportunity to take part in the development of the Russian segment of the Net. Four Cyrillic domains - РФ, .ДЕТИ, .МОСКВА and .РУС – make the Internet more accessible to those who are not yet proficient in English. The propriety objectives include promoting closer interaction between registrars, establishing a joint approach to promoting web literacy, improving the security of the Russian Internet and conducting joint educational projects.
Russian registrars are intent on uniting their efforts to deal with these ambitious goals. To that end, a memorandum was drafted and will be signed at the Russian Internet Governance Forum. The ceremony will take place at the opening of the forum on April 7.
